Passing is one of the most important aspects of becoming a well-rounded, effective soccer player. There are several key elements to passing.
PASSING IS TIMING- great passing means great timing, a pass must anticipate where the recipient will be when the ball arrives, so the player and the ball get to the spot at the same time.
SEE THE FIELD-.. Don’t stare down at the ball when you’re about to make a pass. Always keep your head up..
COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR TEAMMATES- Teammates need to constantly communicate and work together. You need to be calling for someone to pass to and they should be telling who and when there is an open pass.
USE YOUR INSTEP- the most effective pass will be with your instep. You’ll have more control using your instep. Strike the ball firmly and always follow through. Deliver a sharp, crisp pass that stays on the ground (unless you need to send it a long distance). For longer passes you can use the top of your foot to strike the ball.
LEAD THE RECEIVER. As mentioned earlier, you always want to lead the person receiving the ball. Put the ball far enough out in front of him that he won’t need to slow down. A successful pass is one that doesn’t affect the path that the recipient is on.
Soccer is all about passing. As they say, “Let the ball do the running”
